Where in Singapore do you go to escape the city\u2019s hustle and find creative inspiration?<\/b><\/p>

MS<\/strong>: Tiong Bahru is my go-to escape. It\u2019s one of Singapore\u2019s oldest neighbourhoods \u2014 the country\u2019s first public-housing estate built in the 1930s \u2014 with beautiful Art Deco architecture, leafy streets, and an old-meets-new charm that makes it quietly rebellious and hipster.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I\u2019ll begin at the Tiong Bahru Wet Market, where the same vegetable vendors have been there for decades \u2014 one gentleman I buy from has run his stall for more than fifty years. I\u2019ll grab fresh greens or even freshly-ground coffee, then wander through the lanes past boutiques and caf\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>

For coffee, <\/span>Plain Vanilla<\/span><\/a> is my favourite spot \u2014 in my opinion, the best coffee in town \u2014 and their cupcakes and desserts are my go-to indulgence. Caf\u00e9s like <\/span>Merci Marcel<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Micro Bakery<\/span><\/a> add to the area\u2019s creative rhythm, and I love browsing independent stores such as <\/span>Woods in the Books<\/span><\/a> \u2014 a charming children\u2019s bookstore \u2014 and <\/span>Cat Socrates<\/span><\/a>, a quirky souvenir shop filled with art, design objects, and local curiosities.<\/span><\/p>

And <\/span>Foodie Market Place <\/span><\/a>is another incredible find \u2014 great produce, cheeses, and fun food options for my kids like steaks, sausages, and artisanal snacks.<\/span><\/p>

If I stay on for dinner, <\/span>Magpie<\/span><\/a> is where I\u2019ll end up…’Borderless Soul Food’ – a creative blend of various culinary influences from around the world. The menu changes often due to its produce- first approach. MS:<\/strong> I\u2019m drawn to a few local labels that tell Singapore\u2019s story through fabric and detail. <\/span>Simone Irani <\/span><\/a>is a luxury women’s resort-wear line known for its timeless silhouettes in standout colours and prints that move easily from poolside to dinner. <\/span>Love, Bonito<\/span><\/a> is another favourite \u2014 modern, wearable pieces.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

When it comes to accessories, <\/span>Boh\u00e8me by V\u00e9ro<\/span><\/a> always catches my eye. Each piece is handcrafted, and every collection feels unique and unexpected. I\u2019m not one for dainty jewellery \u2014 these are statement pieces that complement rather than compete.<\/span><\/p>

What\u2019s your favourite hidden gem in Singapore? <\/b><\/p>

MS: <\/b>Chandu<\/span><\/a> at <\/span>The Robertson House<\/span><\/a> in Robertson Quay \u2014 a true hidden gem. It\u2019s tucked behind a big black door with a gold-moon handle; I\u2019d walked past it for a year without realising it was there. It was created as a nod to the area’s colonial era history when Robertson Quay was known for its warehouses, opium dens and trading outposts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The word Chandu has a layered meaning \u2014 in Hindi, it translates to opium, while in Sanskrit, it also means moon. The name captures the space perfectly: moody, mysterious, and softly luminous. Inside, it\u2019s all rich leathers, dark velvet tones, and perfectly dimmed lighting.<\/span><\/p>

Kumar, who runs the show, creates the most inventive bespoke cocktails \u2014 tell him what you\u2019re in the mood for and he\u2019ll surprise you with something extraordinary. MS:<\/strong> If I\u2019m staying close to the fair, I\u2019ll head up to <\/span>Spago Bar<\/span><\/a> \u2014 the city\u2019s most iconic view and my favourite drink of all time, Rough Love.<\/span><\/p>

If I\u2019m venturing out, my first stop would be <\/span>67 Pall Mall<\/span><\/a> \u2014 a private wine club tucked away at Shaw Centre, filled with character and charm. There are so many little nooks and crannies to discover, from the dining rooms to the cosy whiskey lounge upstairs \u2014 affectionately known as the Naughty Corner. On weekends, they often have live music \u2014 singer-songwriter sets that feel elegant and soulful, never loud or intrusive. The wine list is exceptional, the food consistently amazing and the staff make you feel completely at home.<\/span><\/p>

MS:<\/strong> Without question, Aqua Tula. It was born here in Singapore \u2014 an idea that started in the pool and evolved into a method, a movement, and a community. It combines strength training, cardio, mobility, and recovery \u2014 all in water \u2014 making it accessible to every stage of life.<\/span><\/p>

What makes it special is that it\u2019s Singaporean at heart: innovative, inclusive, and quietly powerful. It challenges the old idea that fitness needs to be punishing, showing instead that strength can come through flow, and that water has the power to heal and transform.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Where do you go in Singapore when you need to reset \u2014 body, mind, and creativity?<\/b><\/p>

MS:<\/strong> Movement is where I go to reset and recharge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Aqua Tula<\/span><\/a>, the method I created, is my sanctuary. There\u2019s nothing like being in the pool by 7 a.m, exercising in the water and the outdoors – connecting with the incredible women in my community.<\/span><\/p>

Long walks by the river are also my go-to. I have an 8 km route that starts at Robertson Quay all the way to <\/span>Marina Bay Sands <\/span><\/a>and back. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How do you personally balance the intensity of Art Week with self-care or mindfulness?<\/b><\/p>

MS:<\/strong> Art Week can be full-on \u2014 openings, dinners, and lots of stimulation \u2014 so I stay anchored through routine. My mornings start in the pool with my Aqua Tula water workout, usually balanced with walking or weights later in the day \u2014 what I call my three W\u2019s: Water, Walking, and Weights.<\/span><\/p>

But what I never compromise on is my Transcendental Meditation practice. It centres and grounds me \u2014 a daily reminder of one of my favourite mantras: ‘slow down to speed up.’ <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

MS:<\/strong> Singapore would be a living installation \u2014 always evolving, layered with movement, shaped by the people who pass through it. There\u2019s structure and precision here, but also a quiet rhythm that feels alive.
